friday!

Behold = my new couch. Currently, there are two couches
and two giant arm chairs in my tiny TV room. What to do.
Here is my new etsy Alchemy request, people =
Can someone paint a giant sized portrait of me, my couch
and my pet mr crabs? ha. Wouldn't that be dreamy.
I do feel slightly warm about being able to pluck a piece of
furniture off the street and make it sexy!
gratuitous kissing pic.
Happy Friday!

Snippits

How I love cheesily personalizing the world around me.
Sorry about the excessive embroidery this week.
But, I must.
Personalized 'Mr Sun' 2 year old art on
Mom's day kitchen towels. Precious!
and, I finally finished this guy...
Just in time for the next holiday!! Seamless.
I am a simple woman.
My Mother's Day
gift obsessions?

A magic message bean and a rotary phone. hmm.

Mommy love (super mondo tutorial)

Finally the anthro inspired appliqued kitchen towel
(inspired by mom's day) tutorial.
voila!
I must admit that I made the second prototype last night
in the wee hours and there are some funky craftsmanship
moments. Don't worry : I will call your attention to them
even if you don't see them.
the rest is after the jump...

like candy

A trip to Shanghai Tang is like a trip to
Willy Wonka's chocolate factory(watch this clip,
it will make you happy).
Shiny florescent pink and green enamel,
Chinese symbols and letters in
solid gold.
The best! And this catalogue... like candy.
For you, some of my fave shots from front cover
to back.
all images from Shanghai Tang.
Happy Chinese New Year!

Felt!

The only thing I like more than felt is a shop composed of
only felt items! Dreamy!
And, as usual, I am thrilled to see yet another brilliant
garland idea.

step into my mini forest

Miss Susie brought me my very own terrarium yesterday!!
I am so excited. Such a delicate little forrest. I need to hide some
treasures in there!
Her coworker hand makes them herself!
Each terrarium is hand blown especially for the cause!
And, this baby is named the Armadillo!!
I will update this later to include exactly where to order your
very own terrarium.

sweet

After such an outreach of love and support for the last
Holly Hobbie item(I kid), I decided that
I must make more Holly Hobbies.
Well, at least people appreciate themselves
some Troop Beverly Hills. Clearly,
you have your priorities in order.
In honor of Niece Noa's bday, I felt that I would
make her a sweet little swiss dot skirt with
some hand dyed crochet and of course, a little
Holly Hobbie love.
Sweet.
I know my sister will appreciate this.
She did have a giant yellow Holly Hobbie
canopy bed, after all, and always had
her hair parted in the middle with long
flowing ribbon clips.
And, in unrelated news,  I am finding this
'make one thing each day' new years resolution
to be totally do-able.
Remember these sweeties?
Ok, I know, we are all sick of them. ha
But, the good news is that they finally are
not a loose table scrap in danger of being
thrown out at any minute.
They are the centerpiece of an amazing pillow.

And the melamine blue is a homage
our wonderful cake.. mmm.

beautiful(chilean)things.

Kipu fine handcraft store in Valparaiso, Chile is full
of woven perfection. The sweetest store.

amazing.
This poncho was perfection and completely got me in the mood.
The chilean mood.
I quickly became obsessed with these delicate little notions
woven from horsehair. I love them.
Here, a butterfly.
The figurines and animals were so sweet, yet way too pricey for
this girl. He is so intricate and dainty!
Don't you just want to squeeze him?

Click here to read more about the 'Crin' horsehair craft and the
cultural background of the craft
which has been practiced for 200 years by the women
Pretty cool stuff. I'm glad I was obsessed!

home grown holiday

Let's jog our memories back to April,
when I made clear my obsession for the
miniature Fungi farms from
My fascination with the mini fungi garden is a long running
one that started about 8 years ago with trips to
the Ferry building in S.F.
How pretty are these mushrooms?

See their mushroom forest in the forefront?
Gorgeous! Effortless! Like a terrarium, but better.
So much better.

Thanks to Melvin, I received my very own Fungi farm over the summer.
In hindsight, perhaps I should have named him. Would that have
made him feel more nurtured?
At any rate, I ran out and purchased a large glass cloche,
the only one I could find was from Pottery Barn,
and gave him a nice, comfy and trés chic home.

And of course, I haven't mentioned him since.
Shattered dreams.

Halloween came and still nothing.
He did appear to be some groovy science experiment,
which helped the spooky decor some.
Our main problem here, so we think, was that it was still
80 degrees in October in Southern California.
Like the lagomorphs, shroomy likes a nice crisp 60
degrees. Lucky for him, the month of November has created
a buns-chilling atmosphere in our guest bathroom.

And that is where we moved him. The rabbits are so jealous.
And, wouldn't you know it, he responded.
Growth and more growth.

Shroomy checking himself out in the mirror..
(he's so vain)
New larger growth..

Original mini growth from the great hot spell of 2009.

New large growth next to old whimpy growth.. see the difference?

Even a few shroomy heads.
Well, I have been butt dragging on this post and this was a shot
of the shroomy heads on Friday..

This was shroomy head MADNESS on Sunday..

Finger high!

Shroomy reaching for the sky on Monday..

And mondo Alice in Wonderland shroomy status this morning.

I am totally a mushroom farmer. So my three shroom heads don't
really resemble the beauty of the Far West Fungi sample.
That's ok.
I have a strong desire to incorporate them into my
Thanksgiving cooking. Yet, somehow, I am not sure I have the
confidence to serve guest a fungus that I have grown in my
guest bathroom, that has been witness to lord knows what.
But, maybe I do.
