home grown holiday

Let's jog our memories back to April,
when I made clear my obsession for the
miniature Fungi farms from
My fascination with the mini fungi garden is a long running
one that started about 8 years ago with trips to
the Ferry building in S.F.
How pretty are these mushrooms?

See their mushroom forest in the forefront?
Gorgeous! Effortless! Like a terrarium, but better.
So much better.

Thanks to Melvin, I received my very own Fungi farm over the summer.
In hindsight, perhaps I should have named him. Would that have
made him feel more nurtured?
At any rate, I ran out and purchased a large glass cloche,
the only one I could find was from Pottery Barn,
and gave him a nice, comfy and trés chic home.

And of course, I haven't mentioned him since.
Shattered dreams.

Halloween came and still nothing.
He did appear to be some groovy science experiment,
which helped the spooky decor some.
Our main problem here, so we think, was that it was still
80 degrees in October in Southern California.
Like the lagomorphs, shroomy likes a nice crisp 60
degrees. Lucky for him, the month of November has created
a buns-chilling atmosphere in our guest bathroom.

And that is where we moved him. The rabbits are so jealous.
And, wouldn't you know it, he responded.
Growth and more growth.

Shroomy checking himself out in the mirror..
(he's so vain)
New larger growth..

Original mini growth from the great hot spell of 2009.

New large growth next to old whimpy growth.. see the difference?

Even a few shroomy heads.
Well, I have been butt dragging on this post and this was a shot
of the shroomy heads on Friday..

This was shroomy head MADNESS on Sunday..

Finger high!

Shroomy reaching for the sky on Monday..

And mondo Alice in Wonderland shroomy status this morning.

I am totally a mushroom farmer. So my three shroom heads don't
really resemble the beauty of the Far West Fungi sample.
That's ok.
I have a strong desire to incorporate them into my
Thanksgiving cooking. Yet, somehow, I am not sure I have the
confidence to serve guest a fungus that I have grown in my
guest bathroom, that has been witness to lord knows what.
But, maybe I do.

obsessed!

Sorry to subject everyone to my love of small creatures
and my twisted sense of humor. But, I have been craft
book shopping for the last week (in preparation for
the upcoming classes) and I am dying over how many
amazing felting books there are?! I have NO idea what you
do with a small felted creature. I may have to fight my
inner nonsense collector on this one.
Look at these amazingly funny felted friends from the luckyd
shop on etsy. In a sea of people felting their
dogs, this shop is perfectly silly.

Manny the miserable monster.

Butterscotch the baby guinea pig.. the best hot mess.

Hampa and Hamma the hamster felted grandparents.
Hampa has a totally awesome baldy bowl cut.

And, apparently, they can felt your likeness, so you can keep a
small felted you in your pocket.
I just love how they are all sitting on the same creepy green
chair. It is almost like they are waiting in the doctors
office. Perhaps a felting class is in my future.
For the moment, I am seriously obsessed..

Happy weekend.. get busy!

Not to stress anyone out, but if you are going
to fashion your own fancy Halloween costume,
the time to get started is now.
Let me offer you a few costume ideas..

Dangerous love: sheik plus
geisha = witchy love child.

Hammer pants clown family

80s moon people.. who love their sneakers.

An easy sell: we love america!

Big love.

And, for your sweetie...

Disco cowboy

A onesie that is likely to creep up? Obvious good times.

Civil war/Halloween party?

Now this is an unlikely bunch.
What are they up to? No good.

fun friday

I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of
this beautiful originally crafted watercolor last night
that was picked up by Sweetie over the weekend
in Brooklyn. I am a little jealous that Sweetie
was able to experience its creator, Billy Hahn,
first hand. Totally my cup of tea.
Billy Hahn, in all of his eclectic hotness, is fancy..
he has a website. We can all experience him.
Enjoy!

This is our new family pet : 5 eyed 3 eared lady pig cow.
Yes, that's her name. She is hot.

'Bird Slug'

'Unicorn Dino Turtle'

'Flying Narwhal Bunny Horse.'

I told you he was my cup of tea.
Happy Weekend!

Mr Bill 2.0

So much better than the Sunday funnies! Daily doses of
My Milk Toof. Seriously amusing.
Discovered via Notcot, which is also an excellent
daily read.

Just in time!

I am thoroughly hurting from a night of no sleep/cowering under
the covers due to this super scary lightning storm. I'm a baby, I know.
Look at the pictures! Scary stuff.

Anyway, just as all hope for the day amounting to anything was
nearly lost, these totally tacky and amazing lights arrived in the
mail. Reminiscent of a dirty capital I-talian restaurant,
these guys are going on our sassy new porch, amidst our new
and very abundant grape vines. cough. Contain your jealousy..
you can have them too. From Victorian Trading Company

seriously.

Did anyone ever dress up their cat in little
snap button front plaid western shirts?
Well, I did and it was hilarious.
These prints totally bring me back. Classic..
from Berkley Illustration. The whole cast of
characters is amazing including the artist, Kenny,
who renders himself as some sort of Wookiee friend
of Chewbacca with sharp pointy teeth.
I need at least one of these on the wall for times
of excessive seriousness.
